Lynette Wongus, CHW

"...bridging the gap between resources and our community"

Lynette Wongus, was born in Cambridge, MD. to Lula and the late Otho “Pete” Wongus, Lynette Wongus is a product of the Dorchester County Public School System and a lifelong resident of Dorchester County.  She has a son, two daughters and five grandchildren who also reside in Cambridge.

Lynette loves to serve her community. She serves on the board for the Cambridge Community Garden project, located behind Waugh Chapel UM Church on High St.; the Anchor Point Family Thrift Store; People for Better Housing; and the University of MD Extension Office. Lynette also serves our county pantries by providing important health information.  She helps ensure that fresh produce provided by Citizens for Better Housing, and serves Dorchester and Caroline Counties, get to each Senior Housing complex in the county. Lynette is very passionate about serving others, especially our Senior Citizens and youth. She has driven countless miles to provide services and food to the seniors in this county. She spends countless hours at meetings and on the internet, helping to provide valuable information to the community. Her all time goal and passion is to connect each community partner with one another so that ALL of Dorchester County residents are served.

Lynette also serves her community politically by going door to door, accompanied by neighborhood youth, making sure our community is engaged in registering to vote and/or submitting absentee ballots.

On countless occasions, Lynette has “piled” her car up with youth to make sure they get to functions in the community that will benefit them. She has driven her car on nearly empty tanks of gas, around the community, to advise residents of functions that are happening in the community as well as to give the community information that they should know. She drives around to see if houses with children, have air conditioners and/or fans in the summertime and has started a drive to support those families. During tax season, Lynette volunteers her time to help youth and those who cannot afford to pay, to prepare their taxes. As well as other countless deeds of kindness

This community servant has even conducted her own (informal) surveys with residents in the county to see what services are needed and with the information, she shares her findings with the appropriate authority/partner(s). Lynette works closely with Commissioner Steve Rideout and serves on the Cambridge Association of Neighbors, which meets and brings information regarding a particular neighborhood. This group is looking to diversify and come together to help bring change and resources to ALL neighborhoods.  Lynette makes herself available to a variety of committees so that we have a voice at the table; there is unity among ALL partners; and that there is a coordinated effort to serve the community.

Lynette loves what she does for her community. She loves to go above and beyond the call of duty when it is serving others. She is a servant leader and truly an asset to the Dorchester County community.
